WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The sixth annual Regenerative Medicine Essentials Course will be held June 10 – 14 in downtown Winston-Salem. The course is made possible through the collaborative partnership between the Regenerative Medicine Foundation (RMF) and the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM).

The Regenerative Medicine Essentials Course – the “official course” of the RMF – will be held at the Wake Forest Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education. Course founder and WFIRM Director Anthony Atala, M.D., serves as co-director with Joan Schanck, MPA, WFIRM’s academic research program officer, and RMF Executive Director Bernard Siegel.

Taught by prominent experts, this one-week course features “Into the Lab” hands-on workshops, and provides attendees a firm foundation into the field of regenerative medicine, which works to restore structure and function to damaged tissues and organs. From the science behind pioneering discoveries and clinical applications, to regulatory and manufacturing challenges, the course provides a comprehensive look at progress to date, current challenges, new “hot” topics as well as future applications.

The course program is designed for clinicians, researchers, technicians, students, industry and government representatives, and patient advocates. Topics include stem cells, biomaterials, cell therapies, clinical trials, regulatory matters, pathways to market, biomanufacturing technologies and much more.

“We welcome the RMF’s partnership on this course,” said Atala. “RMF and Bernard Siegel have provided critical leadership to the field for more than 16 years while focusing upon public policy issues, advancing funding initiatives, workforce development and worldwide public awareness.”

Additionally, the RMF has organized and participated in dozens of public education events, more than 100 conferences including founding the World Stem Cell Summit, and serves as a catalyst for positive global collaborations.

“We believe the RME Course offers participants a special deliverable – a contextual understanding of the field of regenerative medicine in all its aspects, taught by some of the top experts in the field which is why partnering with WFIRM is crucial,” Siegel said. “It is not widely known, but many of the novel concepts and timely discussions presented at the annual World Stem Cell Summit have their genesis from the carefully crafted and innovative course curriculum taught in Winston-Salem.”

The course is endorsed by TERMIS, Stem Cells Translational Medicine, Biomat.net and World Stem Cell Summit.
