In a recent study published in the journal Nature Communications, researchers in the United States explored how cytochrome P450 family 26 subfamily B member 1 (CYP26B1)-mediated retinoic acid (RA) breakdown regulates proximodistal (PD) identity during axolotl limb regeneration.

The study also addresses unresolved questions regarding how RA gradients are established during regeneration and how these mechanisms might translate into future applications for regenerative medicine.
