CORE FACILITY MANAGERS ROUNDTABLE- CREATING THE ULTIMATE STEM CELL HUB

What does the ultimate stem cell hub look like? How can we work together to create it? This participatory session is ideal for researchers starting iPSC projects or genome editing projects, as well as for industry professionals interested in partnering with stem cell cores to test beta products entering the market. The speakers will discuss what stem cell cores do and how, and what is involved in setting up the ultimate stem cell hub with the necessary environment, expertise, and equipment. Establishing such a hub requires extensive collaboration, and this group is looking for potential academic and industrial partners to join them in their efforts.

FOCUS SESSION

Cell Based Gene Therapy

INTERSECTION OF STEM CELLS AND GENE THERAPY – CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS

Parallel recent successes in gene therapy and cell therapy approaches to disease are now coming together in exciting pre-clinical work that combines the two approaches. This panel will discuss some of the techniques used to manipulate the genome to effect curative cell therapies, as well as gene-labeling techniques that can be used to follow the fate of cells after transplantation. HIV disease is a likely early target for combined cell and gene therapy, building on decades of clinical experience with hematopoietic cell transplantation, and studies readying this combined gene-cell therapy approach to HIV will be presented.

STEM CELLS AND THE COMING STANDARDS REVOLUTION IN THE LIFE SCIENCES

This session seeks to engage academics, practitioners, and policymakers on the prospects and challenges of establishing standards in stem cell research and commercialization. Standards have the potential to enhance research productivity, limit duplication, ensure safety, and facilitate future biomedical innovation. The goal of this session is to identify key opportunities for standards in stem cell research, encourage more systematic evaluation of the role that standards might play, and initiate the formation of a community committed to the development of robust and meaningful standard-setting in the life sciences going forward.

SYMPOSIA

SINGLE CELL APPROACHES TO STEM CELL RESEARCH – ORGANIZED BY FLUIDIGM

Attend this session to understand why single-cell approaches have become so important in stem cell research, learn about the latest trends in single-cell workflows, discover how the methodologies can be used in your own science, and discuss where continued development and focus will occur. This will be a moderated audience participation panel, with questions fielded by, and discussed amongst, the panelists.

Principal investigators, researchers, lab managers, funding agencies, translational medicine specialists—or anyone with an interest in how single-cell approaches are changing our biological understanding of stem cell research and application should attend.
