Stem Cell Advocate
Boca Raton, FL
With a background in Infectious Diseases, Emergency Medicine and more recently, Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, Dr. Zimmer comes by his knowledge of the benefits of stem-cell research and its clinical applications through direct experience.
Hospitalized in a coma in 2010 with multi-organ failure, he survived the experience with a severe dilated cardiomyopathy. With an injection fraction of less than 15% he was totally disabled, bound to a wheelchair, on oxygen and told a heart transplant would be his only chance of survival…if he lived long enough.
“I was totally incapacitated, depressed and believed my life was over. I was on 14 different medications. Between the CHF and the side effects of my medications, my days were spent sitting upright and staring at the TV. I saw a commercial about stem cell research at the Miller School of Medicine , figured I had nothing to lose and called.
I was enrolled in the POSIEDON study and received a series of stem cell injections in May of 2012. Within six months, my level of functioning improved dramatically. I am now off most meds, run 5 miles every other day, am working full time and recently got married.
I look forward to sharing my experiences in an effort to advocate for the importance and potential impact in supporting ongoing research and clinical applications in this stem-cell based domain of life saving therapies.”
